Dog Portrait Drawings in Graphite Pencil
This pet portrait was created in 2010 and features a lovely black pug called Butter. This dog portrait was commissioned by a client as a Christmas present for Butter's owner. Butter is a very determined little dog and the client wanted to show that in the portrait. She chose a photograph of him walking away from the camera as she felt it really showed off his characteristic walk.

Client Photographs
The client had lots of photographs to show me which was great as I could really form a clear idea of what Butter was like. This always helps in capturing the true character of the portrait subjects. To give the pet portrait good context we decided to add background in the form of grass and some vegetation. I added a horizon line to make the pet portrait more interesting and to add a better perspective.
Pet Portraits in Progress
Below are some progress photographs that were taken as the portrait developed and the client was able to see these on the Art in Progress Blog. I also took some photographs of the finished drawing and some detailed images of the lovely texture of the Fabriano paper. The finished drawing was mounted in a grey mount which suited the drawing really well.
